On a trip to snowy Giellajohka in Inari in January 2023 I imagined the surrounding swamps blooming in the summertime. The flower-inspired forms can be seen as characters, or little villages. In Finnish mythology Väki means the power and entities of a place, here of the imaginary swamp.
I cut down on materials to emphasize their nuances. The iron rich red clay offers shades from orange to burnt brown. Bubbles and soda create dew drops and spider webs encased in the clear glass. The materials are connected by the spinning ways of working: wheel throwing and glass blowing.
